URBAN
URBAN is an exploration of the relationship between sounds and form. Rather than the traditional process of creating a movie and adding sound effects, I flipped the workflow. I started by crafting a soundtrack from ambient noises I gathered during my trip to Japan. These sounds became the blueprint for storyboarding the motion.

As a Japanese American raised in the US, I’ve long held an admiration for the urban and rural landscapes of Japan. During my visits, I’ve been captivated by the seamless blend of tradition and technology, and the sense of unity that thrives within the bustling streets. The sounds featured in this piece were recorded within the bustling district of Tokyo during one of my many visits to Japan.
