Acquaintances Through Iteration
“Acquaintances Through Iteration” is a interactive art piece exhibited at “H=CN” in Tokyo. Guests who approach the piece will have their motion tracked via an infrared sensor, allowing them to paint with their body movements. The brush marks will then spread and come to life, revealing more images the longer a spot is painted.
Excerpt
“Acquaintances Through Iteration” offers an interactive window into individual perspectives during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. Participants are invited to approach the blank surface, gradually revealing an image and excerpt representing one person’s unique interpretation of the pandemic. The unveiling is facilitated by Cellular Automata, an algorithm emulating cellular life, echoing the real-world spread of COVID-19. As participants draw closer and take action, more of the image is revealed, playing with the concept of virus transmission through proximity, and that we engage in proximity in order to share ideas. Just as communication is essential, the innate urge to approach the mirror and connect with others persists, despite lingering apprehension in the backdrop of our engagement.
