Ambient Spaces
“Ambient Spaces” is a dynamic website created for UCLA’s “Ghestalt” online exhibition. It offers users an interactive map with clickable markers that lead to immersive audio visualizations of the ambiance in each location. These markers were contributed by friends worldwide, who, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, couldn’t physically be together.
Inspiration
For my senior capstone project, amid the challenges of COVID-19, I recognized the distinct ambient soundscape created within my apartment by my friends, traffic, and birds—a product of that specific time period. Recording these sounds allowed me to revisit those moments. The website I developed aims to enable others to share their unique life experiences through ambience, fostering a deeper connection during “these challenging times”.
